OFF TO A GOOD START –– Youth Education Outreach — July 2022
Land of Waterfalls Camera Club’s initial Children’s outreach project, Photography for Kids, July 11-15, 2022, was a success! In partnership with the Transylvania Community Arts Council (TCarts) volunteers from the Club introduced the students to photographic basics ranging from how to hold a camera, safety, identifying a subject, composition, rule of thirds, light characteristics, color theory to Post Processing.
The leaders of the sessions used customized, kid-friendly, “Power Point” presentations. All the students were given time to take photographs under the supervision/assistance of the volunteers. Then their images were reviewed, and feedback was provided. The students found the activities to be a lot of fun.
The morning 90-minute sessions were for children eleven and under. The afternoon sessions were designed for students over twelve.
The weeklong program was the product of months of preparation by volunteers to develop lesson content, methods, presentations, structure, and techniques. It was successful because of the people involved. The students could not have been better. TCarts people were supportive and appreciative. The following fifteen club volunteers put a lot of time, energy, and creativity into the program:
- Haley Beaupre
- Trula Brannon
- Jack Christfield
- Gloria Clouse
- Jo Crebbin
- Marjorie Diamond
- Chuck Gilmore
- Joanne Green
- Bonnie Jensen
- Alan Hunt
- Martine Stolk
- Joan VanOrman
- Mark V’Soske
- Bob Wesneki
- Ken Williams
With the pilot program complete, the Club plans to expand its Children’s outreach by offering similar programs to other youths in the area.
