Perry’s Water Gardens Photo Outing
Photographing lotus and water lilies
Monday, June 27, 7:00 AM until late afternoon
Brief Description – We will meet at 6:55 AM at South Broad Park and leave at 7:00 for the two-hour drive to Perry’s Water Gardens in Franklin, NC. We will arrive by 9:00. The water lilies and lotus grow in several ponds with parking adjacent to the area.
What’s there? – A number of ponds and pools with lotus, water lilies, and other aquatic plants. I have talked to the folks at Perry’s and they say the lotus should be in their prime next week.
Where? – The South Broad Park parking lot entrance is off of Varsity Street. Varsity Street is the street opposite the Cardinal Drive-in on South Broad Street.
Lunch – We will eat at a restaurant in Franklin before returning home.
Level of Difficulty – There is not a lot of walking. The ponds are not shaded, so it could be hot. Water is NOT available on site, so bring plenty of water. You will also want to consider bringing sun screen and insect repellent. Rain gear or an umbrella might be useful in case of showers.
Recommended Equipment – Some of the lotus and water lilies are in the middle of ponds, and some are growing in tanks where you can get close enough for macro shots. Telephoto, macro and/or mid-range lenses may be helpful. Of course a tripod is also useful.
Restrooms – There are no restrooms but there is a port-a-potty on site.
Cost – There is no charge for access to Perry’s Water Gardens, but donations are accepted. I would recommend that you consider leaving a donation. If you car pool, you may want to offer to help with gas.
