Location – Station Cove falls trail is near Oconee Station State Historic Site off of SC 11 in South Carolina, about one hour from Brevard. What’s There – A three-quarter mile trail (1.5 mile out and back) leads to Station Cove falls. Along the trail are many wildflowers. A friend of mine was there yesterday, March 21 and had the following report: “The Trillium were beautiful and near prime. The May Apples were fairly small and no flower buds at all. We also saw lots of Blood Root, blue, yellow and white violets. Lots of Halberd-Leafed Violets as well. There were several Hepatica in bloom near the place where you cross over the creek to get to the waterfall.” He said the trillium should be good for another week, so we should have opportunities to photograph wildflowers and the waterfall.
Level of Difficulty – The hike is an out-and-back easy 1.5-mile hike with a 100 foot elevation change.
Date/Time – Thursday, March 28, 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Directions – The South Broad Park parking lot entrance is off of Varsity Street. Varsity Street is the street opposite the Cardinal Drive-in on South Broad Street. The Station Cove Falls trail is located off of SC 11, about 1 hour from Brevard.Lunch – We will eat along the trail at the waterfall, so bring a lunch and something to drink.
Leader – Alan Hunt, cell phone 828-702-8012. Email: alan_hunt@comporium.net
Restrooms – There is a restroom at Oconee Station Historic site near where we will join the trail. We will stop there before and after the hike.
